The aim of all drilling, well workover and well completion operations is to complete all tasks in a safe and efficient manner without injury of personnel, damage to equipment or without detrimental environmental effects. This aim can only be achieved if well control is maintained at all times. The understanding of pressure and pressure relationships are important in preventing blowouts by experienced personnel who are able to detect when the well is kicking and take proper and prompt actions.
The technology
The innovating technology of the SmartCock combines the Kelly Cock and Inside BOP in ONE valve, for a faster and safer response to prevent a potential blowout. The material technology used in SmartCock enables one person to install this combined valve manually in the string, without the need for lifting equipment assistance. One of the first action to be taken in case of a well control situation is to secure the inside of the string, to prevent a potential influx through the string to surface. Conventionally this is done by installing a Kelly Cock valve, followed by an Inside BOP valve.
